For Old Age

The lights are dim; a texture of sweat in the air As I enter into the arrogance hosting vices and despair Past the hopeless romantics, I climb the stairs To a large room of passions seeking their pair Is this a layover or a wrong destination? As each offering is made to a misguided persuasion Whom among you will realize the false promises made? Before offering your body until the break of day And we’re all looking; we’re all looking for love Yeah, we’re all just looking, just look, look, looking for love And we’re all looking; we’re all looking for love Yeah, we’re all just looking, just look, look, looking for love I have known the emptiness and the shadow it casts I have stood in the present and felt the weight of the past Oh have you ever been the king of a mound of dirt? Ever gloated at the expense of another’s hurt? Well I see it where I live and on the screen And I’m not surprised when the monkeys act in the way of what they see It’s as if every one of them is the most important on the earth And a night together is all anyone is worth And we’re all looking; we’re all looking for love Yeah, we’re all just looking, just look, look, looking for love And we’re all looking; we’re all looking for love Yeah, we’re all just looking, just look, look, looking for love

This weather is terrible, please get me away But this settlement’s an anchor, so I guess that I’ll stay My complaints in a catalogue that fills up each day But I’ve got my health and good manners, so everything’s ok And I heard them all shouting, “if it’s not perfect, it’s broken!” The gains were miscounted and the talking heads misspoken There’s a change that’s a coming but they don’t know the direction They’re too busy practicing their lies for the election They say patients is a virtue, but I believe it can hurt you Waiting for a kingdom that never will come And your problems lack solutions, you prayed to wrong saint Now hellfire and damnation are beating their drums Slowly at first, but they’re quickly progressing And by this time your obsessing about which rights went wrong So you call in some favors, who’s the most powerful savior? Who can cleanse your soul so you may dirty your tongue?

Life’s keeping me distracted; my leaves are still changing And I’m still discovering what life’s supposed to be I’m excited yet frightened about reaching adulthood Or am I there already? Oh what does that even mean? And my footsteps are frozen; I’m stuck in this moment Between obligation and setting myself free Now we must choose our steps carefully; let’s walk to the liquor store Surely they carry a product I need There’s a dream here to follow, just hold out your hands I’ll keep mine in my pockets and we’ll both walk away We’re just too concerned about getting it right But we can still get it wrong and follow our dreams So step off your podium, you’re ahead of the curve And I couldn’t care for your ego; it means nothing to me But if you’ve got something to contribute, my ears are wide open You can lead the discussion if you feel the need We’re just trying to benefit; just trying to improve Or at least stay stagnant rather than declining But if you’ve got something to do, let’s leave this existence I’ll hear you out right now for I’m too tired to speak There’s a dream here to follow, just hold out your hands I’ll keep mine in my pockets and we’ll both walk away We’re just too concerned about getting it right But we can still get it wrong and follow our dreams Now I’ve reached the end and I’m drawing conclusions I’ve seen all I need; my analysis complete These days they take forever to get through Can we speed up already? Can we skip a couple beats? But the world is whatever; I couldn’t care anymore But if it’s not broken, it’s uninteresting And everyone seems so obsessed with succeeding But I’ve never known the feeling, so it must be not for me There’s a dream here to follow, just hold out your hands I’ll keep mine in my pockets and we’ll both walk away We’re just too concerned about getting it right But we can still get it wrong and follow our dreams

It’s been a long, long road that we’ve been on And I don’t see it ending real soon X2 When you make your way through the gates And in front of you your mansion awaits And a crown of diamonds and jewels has been placed Firmly on your brow Suddenly you realize that there are walls Surrounding this entire town And it’s been a long, long road that we’ve been on And I don’t see it ending real soon X2 When you’ve been there 10,000 years Bright, shining as the sun You think to yourself, “there must be someplace else That I can go that I know that I belong” But it’s been a long, long road that we’ve been on And I don’t see it ending real soon And if heaven’s not that far away for me Then for you, heaven's got to be within reach And when you step down on those golden streets You will find out what it means to be free It’s been a long, long road that we’ve been on And I don’t see it ending real soon X2
