Life And Longing

from Farewell Home by Brian Smith

/

lyrics

All of my love, was returned to its sender
And I have no idea what to say
And I heard beauty is in the eye of the beholder
So where am I now that you have gone away?

Life and longing walk hand in hand in a quest for a one-night stand
A certain love that is so fleeting and persistent
As the souls mingle for a moment’s time bearing witness to a sacrifice
Only to dress themselves and reassert their distance
A hope for once that they might stay at least until the break of day
When their character is visible with the sunrise
As opposed to the ones that you’ve known who’s lust is so plainly shown
Who seek to fill an unsatisfiable void in their lives

And all of my love, was returned to its sender
Now I have no idea what to say
And I heard beauty is in the eye of the beholder
So where am I now that you have gone away?

Still searching for a stranger’s night followed by a lifetime of emptiness
A longing for a temporary comfort in the dark
Dear why has society made you this way? With a liars tongue they make the claim
That your desires will be fulfilled with a cursed heart
And I saw your ship as it sailed away and left you naked where you lay
Wishing you knew the name of the one left abandoned
The string now too short to even cut; an absence of which you know just what
A solo trek when you wish it could be tandum

And all of my love, was returned to its sender
Now I have no idea what to say
And I heard beauty is in the eye of the beholder
So where am I now that you have gone away?

And even the strongest bonds can be broken
Just as the biggest diamonds can be cut
And the best of all words misspoken
And the deepest love not enough
For what if all you knew was a shadow
Of the real truths to be told?
And your world has viewed from a peephole
In accordance with the perspective that you’ve been sold
Well you won’t find your story in a production
Neither as a play or on the silver screen
For unless you’ve been given the right introduction
You should remain consuming whatever they feed
And if you don’t think, it’s probably for the better
It’s best to remain working diligently
Giving your body to your oppressors
Those that have taught all you need to believe
