The First Day Since My Death

from Farewell Home by Brian Smith

/

about

I decided to do a parody of the Bright Eyes song, "The First Day Of My Life" after hearing it at a wedding.

lyrics

This is first the day since my death
So apparently I died before I met you
It’s just a little strange how life works out
But I guess I wouldn’t know because I’m dead

This is first the day since my death
So I guess I won’t be making it to your birthday
But just know that I send my regards
And I’d totally be there if I wasn’t dead

This is first the day since my death
And there’s no need to cry your brains out
I mean you can if you want, but I couldn’t care either way
And the reason is because I’m dead

This is first the day since my death
And now I’m down here with the devil
And it’s weird because I didn’t believe he was real when I was alive
But now that I’m dead, we hang out all the time

This is first the day since my death
And if you bought anything for me, you’re wasted your money
So don’t put any flowers or candles on my grave
Just throw my body in a dump because I’m dead

This is first the day since my death
And I guess I was too busy to write an original melody
But the lyrics are okay or at least that’s what I think you’d say
If I could hear you now, but I can’t because I’m dead

This is the first day since my death
And I don’t know why I should still even have to say it
I mean, you must be a really bad listener or something
If you don’t know by now that I’m dead

This is first the day since my death
Which means at one point I was living
But you know a lot of other people have lived too
And like all of them, I’ve found that life is only great because at one point we all die
Yeah at one point we all die
Yeah at one point we all die
Oh at one point we all die
Yeah at one point we all die
Oh yeah at point we all die
Oh it's so great just to be alive
Knowing at one point we all die
